Civilization in Strife

If there were a country which could be a symbol for art, culture, history all encompassed in one then it would be Italy. A history buff’s delight would be to explore this vast country with its many inimitable landmarks. A food connoisseur would be on cloud nine sampling the variety of cuisine on offer. The art enthusiast would be uplifted into a whole different era with the works of the finest artist to have walked the earth having based themselves in Italy. The epicentre of the Catholic World, Rome, draws the faithful followers to the Vatican City.
The beginning of modern civilization where the empire reigned supreme all over the world started from a nook in Italy, known as Rome. Italy is one the countries which spearheaded the unification of Europe starting as early as the 1950’s. Of late with a shift in the thinking of the leadership, notably headed by Silvio Berlusconi, Europe is no more a diehard ally for the country. Supporting the military action against Iraq, Italy participated in the supposed “dismantling of weapons of mass destruction” with the US by sending many of their own troops to support the movement.
Bringing quite a large amount of discredit to the image of the country in which the men as notorious for their romanticism which borders on flirtatiousness, Mr. Berlusconi has been linked with a string of some rather glamorous members of the opposite sex for all the wrong reasons. Apart from having a notorious reputation of a parallel government run by the mafia lords, corruption has been a rampant problem seeping into the highest offices of the government. The economy along with the rest of Europe has been on a downturn with Italy going through its fourth recession in less than a decade. The country now definitely needs a new crop of wealth managers like Rowan Dartington who can guide the financial plans and investments of the people better.
The forefathers of the country who had the strength to rule the world would be turning in their graves knowing the state of affairs of Italy at present.
